Donnie may have been somewhat oblivious, especially when it comes to less tangible concepts such as ‘emotion’ or ‘honor’ but even he picked up on some things.
His family, the Hamato clan, valued honor and loyalty. They were ninja’s after all. Donatello might not have always belonged, but all his actions reflected on them. Even his final ones.
Suicide, taking ones own life, was not an honorable thing.
But the thing about life, something that always frustrated him so, was that every rule had an exception.

“GaH!” Leo shuddered, pulling himself up quickly and brushing off the cold substance.
“Leo???”
Looking back to see what it was that caused his fall, his heart nearly launched into his throat. “Oh no.”
“Leo, what’s wrong?!” Raph’s voice echoed again from the phone.
Leo got onto his knees, ignoring the cold snow that he initially was avoiding. He anxiously brushed away a few inches of loose fluffy snow to see the familiar pattern of a shell. “Shit-“ He muttered under his breath “Get Donnie and come to my location now!”
“What’s going on?! We’re on our way now!” Raph sounded like he was already running.
“I found Mikey.” Leo’s voice cracked as he hung up the phone before Raphael could respond.

"D-Donnie-"
"Just get out." Donnie's voice is quiet again, his hand shaking as he picks up a paper. "Get out and let me figure this out in peace."
Something rises in the leader, similar to the gut instinct he gains when his team is about to walk into a trap, or there's a danger lurking just out of sight. He knows that it would be easy to leave, to obey his stressed younger brother and allow him to continue his work.
In a way, this had been what he'd wanted, hadn't it?
But this is wrong.
Donnie had left during their argument a few evening before. Left on a horrible note of blame and anger and stress that hadn't faded. His little brother may not have realized it yet, but they needed to remedy this or it was only going to get worse.
Leo started this, and now he's going to finish it.
