Daughters of Legends

Summary:

Fifteen years later, Nagisa and Honoka introduce their twin daughters to their families.

Work Text:

"You think they're home?" Rie asked Aya as they stood in front of the Yukimi household's door, having just rang the doorbell.

"Of course they are," insisted Aya. "They wouldn't have set a date for this exact day, at this exact time, at this exact place, if they weren't going to be home for it."

"Rie-chan's just very excited to meet her grandchildren," said Takashi, patting his wife's shoulder. "She's been talking about it all week."

"I don't blame her," mused Taro. "Children are a blessing, no matter where they come from."

Soon enough, Honoka came to the door. "Oh, you're finally here!"

"Almost all of us," said Rie. "Ryouta will be here later, he had to pick something up first."

"Come inside." Honoka invited the family inside. "Nagisa and the girls are in the living room. I'll be out in a minute, I just have to get lunch ready."

In the living room, a cozy place with cream coloured walls and black faux-leather couches, a bright pink blanket was laid on the floor, where twin girls Aika and Kanna, eight months old, were playing with their newly adoptive mother. "Come on, where's Mama?" Nagisa covered her face, playing peekaboo with her kids.

"Na!" Kanna pointed up at her mother.

Rie and Aya both cooed over their new grandchildren. Hearing their voices, Nagisa looked up from her game. "Oh, you're here!" She picked up both girls to meet their grandmothers. "These are Aika and Kanna."

"Ai!" Aika, instantly charmed, squealed and raised her arms, excited to meet new people.

Rie picked up Aika, while Aya took Kanna. "Oh, you look just like your mother, don't you?"

"She has my mother's nose!" Aya cooed.

"Na!" Kanna, looking over Aya's shoulder, saw Honoka coming into the room with a plate of finger sandwiches. Takashi and Taro followed her with a plate of freshly baked cookies and a pitcher of lemonade, respectively. The adults all sat down for lunch.

"So, how do you tell them apart as twins?" Takashi looked between the two babies, noting how similar they looked.

"Kanna has a few freckles on her nose," said Honoka, "while Aika has curlier hair."

"Ai!" Aika squeaked, pointing to the plate of cookies on the table.

"Aika just loves people," said Nagisa. "I brought her with me to get groceries the other day, and she tried to talk to everyone she saw."

Kanna, ignoring the adults, looked out the window and saw a car pulling into the driveway. "Na!"

"Huh?" Honoka looked over. "What's out there, Kanna-chan?"

Nagisa stood up to open the door, and there was Ryouta, wearing a pair of doofy glasses and holding a family sized bag of chips to share for lunch. "Look who's here! Uncle Ryouta!"

"Ai!" Aika chirped, excited to meet another new person.

Ryouta took off his joke glasses and picked up his niece. "Isn't that right, Aika-chan?"

"Wow, you can already tell them apart?" Taro asked.

"Hey, they sent me the picture, and I just guessed who was who from the caption," said Ryouta. "You send me a picture with two people, you're obviously gonna caption them left to right."

"Na!" Kanna reached up to be held with her sister.

Ryouta picked her up. "Look at that! I'm popular!" The adults all laughed as the babies cooed at their uncle.
