Uniqua came out of her pink house as Pablo came out of his blue one.
“ Hi, I’m Chief Uniqua, and this one of my officers Pablo.”
“ Hi,” Pablo greeted.
“ Today, we’re hunting down the most terrifying criminal ever, former soldier Tyrone. So, we’re going to need all hands on deck!” Uniqua proclaimed.
“ I’ll get Officer Tasha and Austin,” Pablo said before heading over to the otherside of the backyard.
Tasha was doing sit ups while Austin was doing pull ups.
“ All hands on deck, Officers. Today is a special day,” Pablo told him.
“ What do you mean?” Austin asked.
“ Yeah, what’s happening today?” Tasha wondered.
“ Well, today, we’re going to capture the most dangerous and slippery criminal ever! Former soldier Tyrone!” Pablo explained.
“ What? No one ever captured him before. How are we going to do that?” Tasha inquired.
“ I don’t know. Let’s go ask Chief Uniqua,” Pablo replied.
He led Tasha and Austin to the otherside of the backyard. Uniqua tapped her foot impatiently. When she saw them, she scowled.
“ What took you guys so long? Don’t you understand how important it is that we put this butthole away forever?” Uniqua scolded.
“ Sorry, we were just wondering how we’re going to capture him,” Tasha said.
“ Well, come here and I’ll tell you,” Uniqua told them.
They all gathered around the picnic table where there was a plan drawn out on a piece of paper.
“ First we lure him into this alleyway right here. Then, when he tries to run, one of us will block each exit so he can’t escape. Then, once he surrenders, we arrest him,” Uniqua explained.
“ Are you sure this will work?” Tasha asked.
“ Of course! Also, never question the Chief!”
“ Yes, ma’am! Sorry, ma’am,” Pablo, Tasha, and Austin said simultaneously.
Meanwhile, Tyrone had just come out of his orange house and was now hiding behind a tree.
“ Hi, I'm a former soldier, Tyrone! After the General fired me, I killed him and the rest of my team for revenge. Ever since then, I’ve been on the run. Not the best decision I made in my life.”
While he was talking, he had walked away from the tree, so he was now in full view. Unfortunately for him, Uniqua saw him. She gasped and pointed.
“ There he is! Let’s get him!” she commanded.
“ Yes, ma’am! On it, ma’am!” Pablo, Tasha, and Austin said.
They charged toward Tyrone.
“ Uh, oh, I’ve been caught!” Tyrone exclaimed before running away.
“ Don’t let him get away!” Uniqua commanded.
The backyard transformed into the outskirts of New York. Uniqua wore a brown police uniform. Tasha, Pablo, and Austin wore a blue police uniform. Tyrone was wearing a camouflage army uniform.
Uniqua, Pablo, Tasha, and Austin separated due to their plan. Tyrone ran into the alleyway. He tried to run one way, but Tasha appeared. He tried to run another way, but Pablo was waiting for him. He tried to run a different way, but Austin blocked him just in time. Finally, he ran towards the last exit, but Uniqua stood there waiting for him.
“ We’ve got you surrounded, Tyrone. Surrender now, or things will get rough!” Uniqua shouted.
“ I’ll never surrender!” Tyrone spat.
The four officers held him at gunpoint.
“ Last chance, Tyrone,” Uniqua warned.
“ You won’t take me alive!” Tyrone said.
He pulled out a gun of his own, but all four of them shot at him before he could do anything.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
That’s when everything went wrong. Blood squirted from Tyrone's neck, chest, and head. Uniqua swallowed nervously. They had actually shot him. They’re imagination came to life only when they were in the backyard. And they all forgot and they had actually shot him. Tyrone fell to the ground as he bled out. The four friends just watched as their friends cried softly for help. After a few more seconds,Tyrone took his final breath and succumbed to his wounds. All his friends could do was stare in shock. New York turned back into their backyard.
“ We… we killed him,” Austin stated.
“ What have we done?” Tasha asked.
Pablo began to breathe heavily as he ran around.
“ Oh, no. We killed our best friend.”
“ Pablo,” Uniqua said.
“ We’re going to jail! We’re- we’re criminals now!”
“ Pablo,” Uniqua said.
“ How could we? We deserve to rot in jail. We’re horrible friends!”
“ Pablo!” Uniqua shouted.
Pablo stopped running.
“ Yeah?” he asked.
“ I’m not going to jail,” Tasha said.
“ Yeah, it was an accident,” Austin chimed in.
“ Yeah, but they won’t believe us. I mean, what are we supposed to tell them? That our imagination killed him?” He’s actually dead!” Tasha snapped.
“ Guys! Let’s think about this for a moment,” Uniqua commanded.
“ No, no, no! We are not going to jail Uniqua! We’re kids! We’ll never survive, even if it’s just Juvie!” Tasha rejoindered.
“ Okay, but we can’t just leave him here,” Uniqua said.
“ Wait, wait, wait! Even if we do this, what will we tell them?” Pablo questioned.
“ We don’t tell them anything. We were playing in the backyard, we went back in, but Tyrone wanted to stay outside. That was the last time we saw him,” Uniqua explained.
“ Okay, but what do we do with the body?” Austin asked.
“ We’ll take him out into the forest that’s by our house. Tasha, go get a shovel, we’ll bury him underground where they most likely won’t find him,” Uniqua instructed.
“ And even if we do, we have an alibi,” Tasha stated.
“ Exactly!”
“ Are we really doing this?” Pablo inquired.
“ Do you want to go to jail, Pablo?” Uniqua asked.
“ No, I guess not,” Pablo admitted.
“ Then, yes we are.”
Once Tasha came back with the shovel. Austin, Uniqua, and Pablo carried Tyrone’s body into the forest. Tasha dug into the ground for a while before it was finally deep enough to put Tyrone in. They dropped the body inside the hole and covered it with dirt. When they returned, they were all gross.
“ Wait, won’t they be able to track the DNA back to us?” Uniqua asked.
“ There’s nothing we can do about that. We just have to hope they don’t find the body,” Tasha said.
“ And if they do, it’ll be years later and the body will be nothing but a corpse,” Austin added.
“ Well.. okay. Let’s go back inside and clean up before our parents notice us,” Uniqua commanded.
“ Alright.”
“ Yeah.”
“ I’m going.”
All four backyardigans trudged back into their houses to clean themselves up. Tyrone had died July 12, 2013. Murdered and hidden by his friends. Surely this would not come back to haunt the four remaining backyardigans.
