Chapter Text

That night, Adora was dragged to the local bar (Amber's idea, because of course it was) which was packed with tired looking villagers.

Onyx was already ordering shots for everyone while the others gathered around the table with Adora being stuck in the middle.

She still couldn't believe that she managed to remember something. After 3 years of practically nothing, she was ecstatic to finally remember.

Even though it seemingly wasn't much, Adora felt that it was important somehow.

"Promise."

That one word made her heart ache for some reason. Yet, it also made her feel a slight warmth in her chest that she couldnt place no matter how much she tried.

Lost in her own thoughts, she didn't notice Onyx returning with the drinks.

"I got the good stuff, so better prepare yourselves!" Onyx winked at them as she placed the tray full of drinks onto the table right in front of Adora.

"Come on Dora! You get the first shot."

Adora gulped, looking at the drinks.

She was a terrible lightweight.

"What, you scared?" Amber teased from her place besides Ally, who in return elbowed her.

Adora saw the challenge in Amber's eyes as she gave her a smug look. Adora's competitive side awoke at that look.

She wouldn't let Amber win.

"Me? Scared? Sounds like you're projecting, Amby." She replied, shooting back a look of her own.

Amber glared at the use of the name, Onyx snickering at the display.

"You're talking big for someone who can't even talk to their crush. And you haven't taken the shot yet, bet I can drink twice as much as you."

Adora's face went red at that, suddenly remembering the embarrassed encounter with the magicat.

"Oh now you've done it. It's so on'!"

Ally groaned next to them. This is gonna be a long night.

*********************

Catra is not freaking out, she's not.

She's fine. Totally cool. Cool as ice. Cooler than the Frosta's ice fists. Never been better.

Really, she's-

"Will you just stop fucking pacing and sit your ass down!"

Glimmer huffed, having had enough of hearing Catra's claws scraping against the wooden floor, the sound irrigating her.

It was a nice floor too.

"How about you sit down Cat, and try some of those calming exercises Perfuma mentioned." Bow said from his spot next to Glimmer, having a protective arm around his wife's shoulders, (Just to make sure she doesn't lunge at their clearly-on-the-verge-of-a-nervous-breakdown friend).

"Yeah, your pacing is like really annoying and it's causing me anxiety too, you're ruining the poor floor."

Catra stopped and glared at her sparkly friend. How are they not freaking out?

Their best friend, who was presumed to be dead, has just happened to be living peacefully in a village that was being harassed by goons. Oh and she apparently doesn't remember them.

Totally nothing to freak out over.

"Yeah, I'll pretend I'm so fine with finding out that my fucking wife, who went missing, suddenly appeared after 3 fucking years and has no idea who I am! Like seriously?! How are you so calm!"

Okay, so maybe she is freaking out just a bit. But come on.

The King and Queen shared a look.

Glimmer then looked at her friend, a much softer look replacing the scowl on her face.

"Honestly? We were freaking out for the whole night after you told us.Trust me Horde scum, we're not as calm as we seem. We just got most of it out of our system."

"Ew, no offense sparkles, but I don't want to know how you got it out of your system."

The couple went red at the implication of what their feline friend said.

"Get your head out of the gutter horde scum! You know damn well that's not what I meant."

Glimmer knew that Catra was using humour to help her process her feelings. It was her way of dealing with stressful situations.

"Look, right now we don't know what happened to her or why she doesn't remember us. But, atleast we know she's alive and that she's fine. Isn't that something?"

Catra sighed, she knew Glimmer was right, but it was still hard seeing Adora so well after accepting that her wife was gone.

She had to raise their daughter on her own for 3 years.

Sure, she had the Princess alliance to help her, but they couldn't always be there. When the nights were quiet and her daughter was asleep, the loneliness that she desperately tried to bury, would show itself again. She would lie in bed, wishing, hoping, that her wife would walk in through the door and smile at her again.

But she never did.

And she would keep feeling that loneliness creeping in. Seeing her friends happy with their partners and knowing that she lost that.

It was so fucking hard.

"I know, I know. I should be happy to see her again. Then why...why is it so painful?"

The silence was the only answer she received.

********************

Cyra was sad. She was missing her momma.

Whenever Cyra was sad, her momma would give her a kiss on the forehead and make it better.

But she wasn't here.

What..what if momma leaves me like mommy did?

Teats welled up in the kitten's eyes. She wanted her momma.

"Wildkitten? You okay?"

Cyra didn't look up from where she was burried in her blankets, her momma's scent helping not soothing her like it usually did.

"Oh sweety, what's wrong?"

She felt a weight settle at the end of the bed, her aunt's voice making her break down into sobs.

"I- I want mom to come back!"

Scorpia gathered her neice into her arms, gently rubbing her back with her claws.

"W-what if I never see her again? If she leaves me like mommy did!"

Scorpia's heart broke as the kitten sobbed into her chest.

"Shh, that's not gonna happen kitty. Your mother is the most stubborn person I know, and if she promised she'll come back, she will."

That was true. Her wildcat would do anything to get back to Cyra, she knew that.

The kitten sniffled as she cuddled up in her aunt's arms.

She knew her auntie was right, but the fear of losing the only family she has betrayed any logical reason.

All she knows is that;

She wants her momma back.
