Oh! Also I would REALLY APPRECIATE a function that allows or excludes various non-canon versions of characters. I'm thinking particularly of genderswap. I'm not a fan of the genre, although I understand the appeal and have read a few amazing ones, but I would love to be able to search "Derek Stiles" and know I'm going to get two guys. I wouldn't even bring this up except that tags like girl!Stiles, fem!Stiles, alwaysagirl!Stiles, packmommy!Stiles, & so on come up if you click on Stiles. Sometimes the fic isn't even tagged as genderswap besides the girl!Stiles & F/M tags, which you might only realize is genderswap if you know the original source.
One other thing I keep running into is non-con fic that doesn't use the archive warning. If a fic has a tag that says rape, non-con, dub-con, questionable consensuality, & so on, it really should get the archive warning. Same goes with the other archive warnings. These things can be triggers for unsuspecting people. Especially when the author uses a lot of tags and readers don't look through them all, believing it's safe due to lack of archive warning.
An idea for crossover fics: Maybe when uploading a fic, there could be a crossover checkbox. When checked, you could select the two or more fandoms you're using. Then fics could be tagged: Fandom: "Crossover: Fandom A, Fandom B". There could also be a fusion checkbox. Because not all fusions are tagged Fusion: Harry Potter or whatever. And that leads to confusion at least on my part. Like why did I click on the Harry Potter tag and a fic without a single HP character pops up? That sort of thing.
Thank you for your thoughts; they're not annoying at all -- feedback is what we want! We have registered them and promise to carefully consider all suggestions. As the process continues, we will post more about our progress and request further input.
As a sidepoint, for works that should use Archive warnings but don't (and provided the creator has not decided to use 'Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings'), you can always contact Abuse. It's in our Terms of Service that a creator should use Archive warnings when they apply or use the Choose Not To Use warning, and the Abuse team can and will enforce it when reported.
