Draco studied himself in the mirror as he buttoned his suit jacket. He turned slightly, admiring one side of his body in the reflection and then the other. His grey (and very expensive) suit was perfectly tailored to match his sharply chiselled cheekbones. Even though his once-platinum locks were now dark grey, his hair was perfectly dishevelled.
He had done it; he had crafted the perfect human specimen. His gaze drifted to his own grey eyes—piercing, yes, but cold and lifeless. He shot himself a smile—a smile so dashing and debonair he could almost convince himself there was still a warm-blooded human behind those eyes.
The truth was, he hadn’t felt much of anything for years. And that was the way he liked it. In creating the perfect human specimen, he had also built the perfect shield. Nothing in, nothing out. The funny thing about shields, though, is that they can always be lowered—especially for the right person.
