    His hand slips a little as he pours the toxins into a cup. He’s taking more than he should, but who can blame him for wanting to get ahead a little? The more poison he consumes, the more he’ll be able to tolerate.

    It would only make him stronger once he pulled through anyway, he thinks as he downs the poison. It fights through his throat as if it knows it doesn’t belong in his body.

    His head starts to spin. Ah, it seems the numerous toxins he’s consumed have started to kick in. Sure, he had to take a day off, but he hardly minded. More time to spend with Zhongli. Of course, he’d have to wait till the man got off from work and whatnot, but he’d have plenty of time to spend with him now that he didn’t have any obligations for the next day.

    Mithridatism, or the act of poisoning oneself in gradually increasing increments to gain immunity, is all in a day's work for a Fatui Harbinger.

    When Childe takes just a little more than he's supposed to, however, things don't go so well. But when he gets out of this, his immunity to the poisons will be stronger than ever, so it can't be that bad. And at least Zhongli's here to take care of him through it all.

But he was raised completely human and normal, without any unusual expectations of him beyond being a regular boy. He remained unaware of his heritage or destiny until the very end. And though he was chosen, he did not accept his role and rejected it and his connection to Lucifer.

    Warlock Dowling was not chosen. He was born as an ordinary child, with no special skills or powers. He should have lived an average life. But he was raised with certain Expectations. Occult and ethereal entities Expected him to be the Anti-Christ. He was not chosen or fated for such a role, but reality tends to bend a little when angels and demons have Expectations.

    In the end, it is just a series of choices.

    The egg seems to still with his light scolding. He waits for a reply, the slightest of movements would suffice, but there is none whatsoever.

    Did she heed her request? Or… Did he frighten her?

    His hand slides down to the sheets below, and grabs at them as the silence stretches on and on. Lower and lower, his heart sinks all the way to the pit of his stomach.

    It isn't his intention to frighten her.

    Before he could withdraw fully, the egg pushes against the skin where his ear had been. With renewed vigor, she tumbles around, urging him to spoil her with his touch (just like a certain someone that he knows and loves).

    OR, Xiao interacts with his little one while his husband is asleep.

    "Have you…" he hesitates—comes to a complete halt. It's silly, this question doing cartwheels in his mind; the words make sense on their own, but once connected and crammed together in a sentence? Ridiculous, it's the height of absurdity! Especially since he's directing the question to Xiao.

    "Have you ever imagined how a little, um, 'someone'…" Venti struggles for words. There isn't a word that exists that would give his intentions away so easily. "...who's got a little bit of you and a little bit of me in them would look like?"

    OR, Venti babysits, the Anemo Husbands have a talk, and Xiao is thankful for his past self's initiative to expand his Adeptus Abode.

    Takes place over a year after Paying Debts, but you don't need to read it to understand and enjoy this fic~
