This young woman came a long way from her home and initially I didn’t care why. Visitors were uncommon and unwelcome. When a storm broke out she sought shelter in my home. I left the door unlocked regularly so my companions could come and go as they please. I was immersed in my work and before I could brace for the storm she entered. I heard the door slam shut with a gust of wind. The faint frantic panting that followed the slam told me that whatever creature entered my home was human. I left my workstation with my hammer to confront the trespasser.
(While imprisoned by Carmilla, Hector reflects on his life and the one time he may have loved a human. It was a memory suppressed deep in his mind.)

Jon Snow is the lone human in a family full of dhampirs and vampires. Naturally, he's raised to be their Forgemaster. And he'd really like to get on with the work of transmutating the dead into night creatures to defend their castle, if only his "brother" (cousin) Robb and foster brother Theon weren't so damn distracting. AKA: Robb's reckless, Theon's one dramatic bitch, and poor Jon has to deal with it.
Robb and Theon know they're breaking the sacred laws of House Stark, feeding on a human in their employ, but what Ned Stark doesn't know won't hurt him... and Jon's totally in control of this situation. There's no chance of it getting out of hand. Nope.
(All you really need to know to follow this is: it's medieval Europe, and vampires can't wield alchemical magic, so they need to employ humans if they want a Forgemaster, to do necromancy for them).

Summary
(Set immediately Post-Season 2) Alone in his father's castle, Alucard begins the arduous task of restoring it to its former glory. In the Forges, he comes across a curious creature: a forged animal that retains its original personality. Nothing more than a loyal pet, which would have been no use to his father's forces. Curious about what kind of a Forgemaster could have created such a thing, Alucard uses his father's mirror to find out.
In doing so, he witnesses Carmilla's abuse of a clever, talented human alchemist, and finds the mission he set out to complete with Trevor and Sypha - to stop the torture of humans by his kind - is not yet done.
