Summary
Shouta feels uncharacteristically nervous as they sit down in front of the doctor, Hizashi cradling a softly crying Hitoshi to his chest.
He's been quiet for the last half hour, only pathetic sniffling making it out because the pain medication they have him on makes him loopy, which is good, because Shouta is pretty sure that the way Hitoshi screamed hours earlier will feature very prominently in his nightmares for a while.
But they still don't know what's wrong with Hitoshi and Shouta prays to all the gods he knows that they are going to find out now and that there will be something they can do about it.
Anything else is almost unthinkable.

Summary
Kurapika had always been reckless at the worst of times. Voices sprung up from the back of his mind, telling him this was a bad idea. There were things he still needed to tell Leorio. Affairs he still hadn’t taken care of. For once, the thundering of his heartbeat drowned them out.
The words were on his lips before he could even register them. “Marry me,” he said.

Summary
“What do you think we’d be like when we’re old?” Leorio muses, mostly to himself. Harmless.
Kurapika feels his stomach drop at the question. He hasn’t told Leorio. He can’t know. He can never know, because he would never forgive him. He doesn’t want to think about what Leorio would be like as an old man because he won’t live to see it. “Annoying,” he huffs, pulling out of Leorio’s grasp and moving to the other side of the bed.
or: kurapika tells leorio about emperor time.

Summary
He’s so small, silhouetted against five pillows and heaps of blankets. The detritus of his fever lies scattered around the room, rags and cold compresses and basins of water surrounding his bed.
“Is he gonna be okay?” Gon asks.
“He’s… He’s going to be okay,” Leorio said, brushing his thumb over Kurapika’s pulse point. His heartbeat was frighteningly faint. “He has to be.”

Summary
"You’re so good to me," Leorio murmured, and Kurapika couldn’t help but stiffen. Of all of them, that one had to be a lie.
