All Scout knew was that Sniper kissed him sometimes— hard, thorough kisses that left him breathless and stupid— and some other times, he sat close enough that their shoulders touched while talking about bullet wounds and the migratory patterns of birds Scout had never heard of.They’d fooled around, sure. Hands under shirts, mouths on necks... The one memorable afternoon in the back of Sniper’s van where Sniper had gotten a hand down the front of Scout's trousers and promptly forgot how his own lungs worked.
But they hadn’t— They hadn’t gone all the way. Not yet, at least.

Alternatively: Sniper and Scout are star gazing. Scout is determined to finally have sex with Sniper, outdoors.

Being a sniper is all about observing.
Waiting for the right moment. Maintaining the correct distance. Not rushing. Sniper has always been good at that.
What he never learned was how to live with being hopelessly in love with his best friend.
When the whole team embarks on a road trip to a campsite for an unexpected vacation, five days seems like enough time to unwind from the battlefield.
Perhaps it's also enough time to discover that some distances are much harder to maintain than others.
