Summary
There are eighteen years between the deaths of the Fabulous Killjoys and the reemergence of the Girl. Although the fight with Battery City wasn’t won or lost during this time, many Killjoys lived and died in the Zones, their masks no less important because they couldn’t defeat BLI. Two of them, Saint Ancalagon and the Ghost of Zenith Past, would come together to fight against the many threats within the Zones, and to find life in their dying world. With encoded messages coming from the City, and the gangs in the Zones gaining power far too rapidly, they have no choice but to try to preserve the balance. Along the journey, they’re separately forced to confront the same question: what purpose is there in living in vain? Would it be better to just lie down and wait for death? They must decide if continuing is worth it, despite the ultimate futility of doing anything at all.

Frank had made the promise a long time ago that whatever was going on between them was never to be spoken about to their mutual friends. And he'd kept his word; to the outside world they appeared as nothing more than friends, while behind closed doors they kissed and complimented each other fiercely. Gerard sometimes saw the way Frank would gaze at him when nobody else was looking and it would take all of the strength he could muster to not react, to not feel everything simmering beneath the surface.
Gerard couldn't deny how much more heightened his senses were now that he was fully sober; everything felt different, better. Frank's skin felt warmer and the way Gerard's cock was painfully swollen was spreading heat through him in gentle pulses, no doubt turning his cheeks rosy red. Gerard kept his eyes closed as he moved closer, he didn't need to look to be able to find Frank's lips; he was sure he could find them in every universe.
