    Summary

Hao laughed it off. The thought he had right now had long toyed with the lines of his imagination. Anything about Hanbin had been. But this one did make him a bit nervous, more thrilled. He hoped he didn’t come off too obvious of a fan, only a boldly interested guy. His fingers flew to the collar of his shirt, tugging before unbuttoning the second button from the top — the first was already undone. The VIP lounge was not hot at all. “Well,” he mused. “Aren’t all your fans girls anyway?”

    “I’m sorry?”

Hao lifted his shoulders, watching as Hanbin tensed up a little. His posture bristled like a guard dog scenting a possible threat, yet like all dogs, he remained just as curious. Hao just had to press his luck. “A bit better odds for me then if you don’t fancy them. Do you? Or does the famous Hanbin Sung just prefer boys?”

    Summary

The paper rustles to reveal the printed document.

    Zhang Hao.

The name is typed neatly at the top, Hanbin sneaks a glance to see the boy once and repeats his name in his head. It suits him. Below it, experiences. Private music tutor, church choir accompanist, part-time library aide… Very musical and academic. Finding the content charming, he scans back to the top part.

    25 July 2000. Oh, he’s only a year older.

“Never worked in a cafe before?” Hanbin inquires.

Hanbin’s simple cafe days take a turn when a rumored-at-church stranger walks through his door.

“Your libido,” she says plainly. “It tends to rise around this time of the year. Unless something’s suppressing it. Stress, illness, or hormones can all do that.”

Hanbin swallows. It dawns on him slowly, settling at the back of his mind. Then, a creeping warmth spreads as he dully realizes that he has not felt arousal in months at all, not even the idle urge to touch himself. Let alone during what she calls breeding period. If mating season is meant to wake something inside him, then his body has certainly overslept.

    Summary

The fans had named Hao many things. For all he cared, Hao could be a red panda, delicate and rare, or a puppy, bright-eyed and ordinary, but to Hanbin, he had always been jjangguri, a raccoon, nimble-fingered and clever. But when the news arrived, all Hanbin could think of was a different image: Hao as a homing pigeon, released back to the sky he could not follow, returning to a home that had never truly been this one.

Hanbin didn’t like pigeons. He didn’t like that Hao, out of all people, started to fit the metaphor too well.

“So,” he said at last, “you’re gonna fuck her later?”

“Would you rather I didn’t?” Hao asked at last, the question unfeigned, as if Hanbin’s opinion mattered to him. And it was true; Hanbin’s opinion did matter to him, because if Hanbin told him not to, Hao would consider setting the matter aside. The matter was that Hanbin could not make the words, or any, leave past his mouth—unless when he intentionally bent them into the other’s favor. Hao must have known about it, too.

“Okay, let me word it differently. Have you?”

    Summary

Maybe it had never been about competing at all. Hao knew he could not possibly be the sun himself, not in Hanbin’s sense, even if he had been crowned the first place of the show and stood as the group’s official center. Those were not any less in weight, but they were not in the same medium as what Hanbin carried. Hanbin’s brightness was more unstudied and less fickle, yet impossible to hold or fix in one form, and all the more irresistible for it.

So, what would it take, or what would it mean, to become the person Hanbin sought?

    “So you’re single now."

“Yeah,” Hanbin said, unfazed. “It’s just me.”

Good, Hao had thought. That meant nothing would stand in his way if things played out the way he hoped—

—not that he hoped for anything, or had he?

“I know you’re jealous, Hanbin,” Hao said, the cruel, yet honeyed tonality in his voice far too evident. “That much I’m far too sure of. And deep in your heart, you know you are jealous too. But there’s another thing in you. Another, terrible one, that you haven’t had the courage to say out loud.”

“What you won’t admit…,” Hao whispered, and all Hanbin could see from the stretch, or its near absence, of his own lips to Hao’s, was how plump and distracting the pink pair was, only until he carried on, “...is that you don’t mind it.”

    Summary

By the time he reached Hao’s door, Hanbin felt flayed, as if every step had peeled him open in his wake. Hao already stood there, leaning against the doorframe like he’d been posing for it. His expression was a perfect echo of the photo that had sent Hanbin spiraling.

“Wow,” he said. “Took you long enough.”

Hanbin swallowed hard. “I came,” he mumbled.

Hao’s grin deepened, gesturing to the younger to enter the room before him. “Bet you did. But you’re not done yet.”

“I came to apologize to her, okay.”

“Then show her,” Hao’s tone sharpened in his reply behind him. “You never even touch her right.”

    “Wh— what do you mean?”

    Summary

Hanbin surely had been good all night. He had moved just as Hao wanted him to, let himself be touched and admired, and obeyed every single command given. He had done everything right, and yet something was off. Hao hadn’t vocally praised him the way he usually did. Not yet heard a soft good kitty, nor a murmured approval when Hanbin curled up at his feet, nor the usual affectionate scratches just beneath his chin.

Instead, he simply examined Hanbin. His eyes trailed over Hanbin’s posture as he sat with his thighs parted ever so slightly. Like he was expecting for anything when he knew very well Hanbin wouldn’t dare to do anything without the other’s permission.

“It’s just funny, isn’t it?” Hao mused.

Hanbin blinked at him. “What do you mean?”

“Like today,” Hao said. “The matching outfits, the way we move together on stage. Someone called us twins.” A quiet chuckle. “It’s funny, isn’t it?”

Hanbin hesitated. He wasn’t sure why, but something about the way Hao said it made the word twins feel heavier than it should.

“I remember, Hanbin,” he murmured. “You said that we’re similar, the moment you first spoke to me. Like I was your mirror.”
