Summary
Detective Inspector Peter Carlisle is called to Blackpool to investigate a suspicious death, when a young man's body is discovered in the bins behind Ripley Holden's new arcade. Ripley reeks of guilt, but Carlisle must prove he dealt the fatal blow, and the arcade owner won't give up easily. From witty repartee, their relationship develops a darker side, with Ripley seeking to establish control over the smart-mouthed detective; lines are crossed and emotions run high as things become intense between them.
Meanwhile, the Tardis delivers the Doctor, Jack, Aziraphale, Crowley, and Zee to Blackpool, 2004, in response to Zee's childhood nostalgia. Meeting another doppelganger barely feels like a surprise, and they set out to get to know this new lookalike, who displays a remarkable level of skill in ice-cream licking.
As Ripley's life begins to fall apart, Carlisle finds himself caught between his duty as a police officer, his magnetic attraction to the dominating arcade owner, and the exciting freedom he sees in the polyamorous lives of his new friends.
And for some reason, everyone keeps bursting into song...
