She knew what people said about her, the way the other slayers talked. How her life was a dance with the bizarre and how she was more like a demon than a slayer. How the night was a part of her, how the hunt and the kill and the blood ran deeper in her than the others. And how she shared her life and her bed with two vampires...
But they didn’t understand. And she didn’t care. She’d lived and died and saved the world enough times to do whatever the hell she wanted.

Set after season 7 of Buffy and season 5 of Angel.
Buffy learns of the apocalypse in LA and immediately rushes there to find badly-wounded Angel and Spike.
As they recover she vows to stay and fight by their side, but keeps her heart close to her chest. She's already dated them, after all, and after her vacation in Rome, she's ready to take a new shot at 'normal'. Angel isn't too inclined either, if he's learned anything, it's that he brings suffering to those closest to him. And Spike? Well... Spike's just along for the ride...
They'll find that life, however, frequently has plans of its own. And also perhaps figure out the mistery of those portals shimmering about, misteriously opening doors to other dimensions, pulling things through that don't belong.
