Viktor notices it like the creeping of Gas into the fissures. The way Jayce frequents the desk at his side less and less.
He hadn't minded it at first.
And then it was Friday and he hadn't seen Jayce all week. Until he does.Viktor is angry, at the situation, at how little Jayce seems to care about their dream, at how much he has to work to pick up his slack while his partner is off getting involved in Piltovian Politics. He's burnt out and in pain and feels left behind. Being from Zaun and living in Piltover, it's a tight rope walk. Viktor tries not to think about too much. But Jayce's new standing with the council makes that impossibly harder.
Jayce doesn't understand. But he tries. He tries so hard and sometimes a little too much.They talk it out on Viktor's couch. It means nothing but everything.

He let out a sigh and looked up the edge of the rocks.
And then he saw what he was least expecting.
There was a baby! Not just a kid. A very tiny child! Tiny children couldn’t get to these parts of the dike, not with all the sharp edges and all the climbing. the child was staring at him. Plump and round little cheeks and big honey colored eyes, he was chewing his tiny fingers into his mouth, he was nervous that much was obvious. Dark Olive skin a bit damp, clothes, just a tattered white tonik, barefoot, and little turf of brown hair atop the baby's head going into wild directions.
Then the tiny baby said “hi“
Viktor thought 'it can TALK' but said out loud “hello!”
The little baby took his hands away from his mouth and smiled a big smile.
Oh gods.
Ps. Little viktor meets baby jayce, and they become friends and make lots and lots of toys together, and its all good and nothing bad happens to them. for sure.
