Chapter Text
Catra was currently sitting in a meeting with some of the most annoying people she's ever met.
If it was up to her, she would be at home with her daughter right now, but what else would you expect when You're the royal adviser of the the Queen of Brightmoon?
It was the delegation from the planet Prismus. They wanted more resources to improve their planet's defences which were destroyed when prime attacked them, leaving their planet almost completely in ruins. Of course, Adora healed the planet, but even so She-Ra can only do so much.
As Queen and leader of the princess Alliance, Glimmer agreed to help, which also meant that Catra would have to help.
She didn't mind it for the most part, as it allowed her to get out of the house that felt so empty. She did hate being away from her daughter for too long though.
After Catra lost Adora, the only woman she's ever loved, she hated being away from Cyra as her daughter was the only thing she really has left of her beloved wife and the thought of losing her too terrifies her. She wouldn't be able to survive that much pain.
For the rest of the meeting, Catra is unable to focus, her mind clouded with pictures of Adora. Her smile, the way her eyes crinkled as she laughed that stupid laugh. The more she thought about her, the more it hurt, but the hurt meant that she didn't forget about her which would have been much worse.
"You okay?" Glimmer asked her as the meeting ended and people began to file out of the room. "You seemed out of it for the entire meeting."
There was concern evident in her voice as she spoke.
Glimmer has gotten closer to Catra after Adora's death as did Bow. They have also lost someone important to them so they knew what Catra was going through.
Though, they also knew that even while it was painful for them, Catra was hurting a hundred times more than them. They lost a best friend, but she lost not only her wife, but the mother of daughter.
As much as Catra loved Cyra, being a single parent was not easy. She had to balance her job with taking care of a kid. A kid who loves to get in trouble.
Sure, she had them to help her as well as the other princesses, but they couldn't always be there. Everyone has their own lives and problems they had to deal with, kingdoms to rule over. In the end, she was alone.
"I'm fine, sparkles." Catra said, tiredness evident in her voice. " Just can't wait to go home."
Glimmer knew that there was more to it, but didn't want to push her friend so she just nodded.
Catra said her goodbyes and swiftly exited the meeting room, excited to see her daughter after a long day of work.
********************
"Thank you so much Scorp, I really don't know what I would do without you." Catra said as she hugged her.
She asked scorpia to stay with Cyra until she got back and scorpia, as the best friend she is, agreed immediately, happy to be able to spend time with her beloved niece.
"It was really not problem Wildcat! You know how much I love that cutie."
That much was true. Scorpia adored cyra since the day she met her. She just looked so much like Catra that she couldn't not love her. And don't get her started in that cute little tail and tiny ears. so cute!
They said their goodbyes and Scorpia left to go back to Plumeria.
After the war ended, Scorpia took back the fright zone, but she didn't really live there on a day-to-day basis since she would miss Perfuma too much. They have been joined to the hip since the defeat of horde prime and eventually married. Catra may or may not have cried, ('I had dust in my eyes' ), but she still denies that.
When scorpia left, Catra immediately went to her daughter's room. She wanted to spend some time with Cyra since she missed her a lot.
Before she could even enter the room properly, she was tackled to the ground.
"Momma! You're back!" The kitten yelled happily.
She loved hanging out with aunty Scorpia, but she really really missed her momma today.
"Hey kitten," Catra smiled and gave her daughter a kiss on the head. "Did you have fun today?"
The kitten nodded eagerly. "I did! But I really missed you momma..."
Catra's heart melted at that. She hugged her daughter closer to her chest, releasing a loud purr which the kitten returned with her own, quieter and softer purr.
They sat there for a while, soaking in each other,'s presence, not wanting to let go so soon.
Cyra hated when her momma was away. Whenever she was away, she would always miss her a lot.
She liked spending time with her aunt's and auncles, but they weren't momma.
It just wasn't the same.
"Wanna come help me make dinner?" Catra asked after a while. "I'll make your favourite."
The kitten's ears perked up at that. Her tail lashing excitedly behind her. Catra knew what would happen.
"Race you, momma!" And with that she ran with Catra quickly catching up.
She really has missed her momma.
********************
After finishing their food, they went outside so Cyra could play.
She climbs the tallest tree she can find first as her mother follows behind her, making sure she wouldn't fall. She also helped Cyra learn how to use her claws so she wouldn't hurt anyone by accident. Then they raced around the house a couple of times since the little kitten had way too much energy.
Once they got tired, they went back into the House. It was starting to get dark which meant that It was almost Cyra's bedtime.
"Time for a bath kitten." Catra said once they were inside.
The kitten's eyes widened and she was getting ready to run for it, but before she could, her mother scooped her into her arms and led the struggling kitten into the bathroom as she tried to escape her momma's strong hold.
"Momma no! I'm clean!" Cyra tried to argue.
"Sure you are kid." Catra pretended to sniff the kitten and exaggerated fainting. "Then what's that smell? Ugh looks like someone does need a bath."
The kitten could only pout in response, she knew that she lost the battle. She had to take a bath.
When she finally was deemed clean enough, Catra wrapped her in a fluffy towel to dry her off. Then dressed her in her favourite onesie.
"Momma...can I sleep with you today? I'm scared to sleep alone..." Cyra's ears lowered as she spoke, the story her aunty mista told her before still scared her.
"Of course you can, how could I say no to my favourite little fur ball?"
Catra took the kitten to her room and laid her down on the huge bed, then proceeded to do the same. Her daughter immediately cuddled into her as sleep overtook her and her eyes grew heavy.
In seconds her daughter's was sound asleep, content in her mother's embrace.Catra in the other hand had a harder time falling asleep.
She hadn't slept well since her wife passed away, the bed was always too cold and empty without her. Cyra being next to her helps a lot, even though it's not the same as when Adora was next to her, she feels lighter with her daughter in her arms.
With Cyra being the last thing in her mind, Catra finally begins to feel herself drift off.
********************
Adora is standing in the kitchen, making a pie that Madame Razz taught her to make. When she hears Catra's footsteps, she turns with a smile on her face.
The look in her eyes makes Catra freeze. It's full of love and adoration, looking at her as if she hung the stars.
Those blue eyes pierce through Catra as Adora then laughs softly at the surprised look on Catra's face.
"Hey, Catra."
********************
Catra jolts awake as she feels a patting motion on her face, and distant sounds of someone calling her name.
"Hey, momma wake up!"
She looks up to see Cyra looking down at her from where she is on the bed.
"What's the time Cy?" She mumbled, half asleep.
Her daughter then jumps on her causing her to let out a faint oof and sit up with the kitten in her arms.
"You were talking in your sleep, momma and you had a sad look in your face...did you have a nightmare?"
Catra paused for a moment, looking at her daughter. Cyra had a confused look on her face, but her ears were down betraying her true feelings of worry. She didn't like seeing her momma sad, she wanted her happy.
The mother then gathered the kitten against her chest to calm her down.
"I'm okay, don't worry about me kitten." She said softly. "Come on, let's make you some breakfast."
The kitten perked up at the word 'breakfast' as her tummy growled. Catra laughted at that.
She really is like her mother, huh.
The pair headed to the kitchen and Catra placed Cyra down on her booster chair, then started on the breakfast.
After breakfast, Cyra ran off into the living room to play with her toys. As Catra went to wash the dishes and clean up the kitchen, her tracker pad went off. It was Glimmer.
"Catra, there was an attack on a village in the north, they need our immediate help to deal with the attackers and they are forced to deal with hunger due to the frequent attacks, we'll be going in the evening. Make sure to be ready."
With that, the Queen hung up.
