Summary
It's a warm September night when Donny, the twin yet totally opposite brother of Betelgeuse, brings their blended family on a dream adventure to the stars. Mid-adventure that night, Richard reveals a secret to Lydia that will change her and Astrid's lives for years to come.
While Lydia works with Betelgeuse and former ACU chief Wolf Jackson to unravel that secret, they have to keep Astrid in the dark, focused on her own life, not her father's death.
As Astrid grows up, she graduates high school, goes to college, and tries to figure out her future. And that future has never been more uncertain when she’s suddenly confronted with the conspiracy surrounding Richard's demise in the Amazon. Steadfast at her side, Donny has to balance helping his best friend reveal the truth while keeping Astrid from following Richard’s footsteps into an early grave.
This story is a sequel, picking up right where “The Sicilians” left off. It combines characters and events from the cartoon, films, and events from the first story “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: Revelations & Resurrections” which is part of this “Home is where the haunt is” series.

A shallow breeze passes by, at some point, and Sonic thinks he can smell a hint of lavender in the air, causing him to raise an eye ridge. He looks around.
How odd.
He hears some noise from below, in the water. This is to be expected, of course. Water moves. But, for a second, he thinks he sees something.
Carefully, he steps closer to the railing, peeking over the side.
Something splashes above water, briefly.
A fin? A tentacle?
He takes a few more steps forward; rests a paw against the rail.
Curiously, he leans forward more and more.
He sees… red eyes?
Are those eyes?
And then, suddenly…
…he’s leaned too far forward.

Astra is dishonorably discharged from the Military Guild after her husband frames her for a crime he committed, and after being quietly dumped in Argo City with no contacts and minimal funds, she goes straight to a bar.
She's drunk and wallowing, so of course a smug little alpha shows up to bother her, but when the young woman offers her a way to remove the mating bite on her neck, Astra realizes the alpha is wearing robes only allotted to those in the upper echelon of the Science Guild.
So she follows the woman onto her ship, and quickly learns her old guild has a habit of dumping omegas and claiming them dead, and that this little alpha has a habit of quietly working miracles.

Mabel Tanaka is moving on with her life, having recently graduated from college and begun working for Dr. Sam and her team, making a future for herself in the human world.
So why doesn’t it feel like enough?
The connection she lost during the Hoppers project isn’t gone, just out of reach. She still visits George in the glade on a regular basis, but it isn’t the same. The longing to reclaim that connection sparks a drive to take it back, and once she learns that the animals that she has come to care about so deeply are in danger again, she decides to break the rules to make it happen.
The more pushback she gets from the powers that be in the human world, and the more good she manages to do while hopping as a beaver once more, the more the animal world feels like home…and the easier it becomes to justify going further than she ever should to protect it.
Because, if she feels like she’s making more of a difference, making more genuine connections, and feeling more like herself when she’s a beaver…why go back to the human world at all?

This fanfic is based on the movie "Love and Wine" (and yes, I only watched it for Masali ;) but it’s only an inspiration, so don’t expect a copy-paste adaptation!
